Birdie

Birdie was created for a Pathways for Childrens local fund raiser. Twenty-eight local artists where invited to paint life size dogs that would be on display around the Cape Ann, Massachusetts area for the summer and then auctioned in September. It was a collaborative project with Kathryn Tuck, a Cape Ann painter. We are bird watchers and decided to create Birdie, the bird dog. She is standing in a field with a bird guide on her back. We mosaicked thirteen birds indigenous to our area flying over or perching on her. The bluejay headress and kohl eye makeup give her a regal look. Birdie was made with vitreous glass, millefiori, ceramic tile and acrylic paint.
